Upgrades and Renewal

Can I renew my license before it has expired?

Yes. This is the most convenient way to do it – before your license has expired.

Can I renew my license after it has expired?

Although not recommended, you will still have a grace period (3 months) after the expiration date to renew your license. During this grace period you won’t be able to get free updates or use the latest version PHP Tools for VS (you might only be able to use perpetual fallback version - the version released 12 months before the expiration), unless you renew your license. After that grace period, you won’t be able to renew anymore, and you will have to purchase a new license.

Please note: our system works by always adding 12 months to the expiration date, not the renewal date.

For example, if your subscription expires on January 17, 2025, you will have a 3-month grace period to renew your license, meaning you can renew until April 17, 2025. During this grace period, you will not receive free updates or be able to use the latest version of PHP Tools for VS. However, you may continue using the perpetual fallback version—the version released 12 months before your subscription expiration. If you renew on April 17, 2025, the system will extend your license by 12 months from the original expiration date, not the renewal date. This means your new expiration date will be January 17, 2026, regardless of when you renewed within the grace period. s During the grace period, you won’t be able to use newer versions or receive free updates unless you renew. To avoid interruptions in your access to updates and support, we highly recommend renewing your license before it expires.

For how long is the renewal price valid?

The renewal price is valid for a year starting on your purchase date, but, as a courtesy, we have extended this renewal price for all our customers for three more months (grace period). That means that after your expiration date, you will have 3 extra months to renew your license. After that period, you will have to buy a new license.

For instance, if a customer purchased on August 10, 2025, the expiration date will be August 10, 2026, and they can renew their license until November 10, 2026. After these three months, they will have to purchase a new license.

Note 1: You won’t be able to use the latest version during this grace period until you renew your license.

Note 2: If the license is renewed during this 3-month grace period, it will still be renewed for 12 months starting on the purchase date, and not on the renewal date.

Tip! You can activate the auto-renewal to avoid this.

A quick explanation for renewals on our system:

Our system works by adding 12 months to the purchase date, not the renewal date. For instance, if a customer purchased on October 10, 2025, the expiration date will be October 10, 2026.

After the expiration date, the customer will have a grace period of 3 extra months to renew their license. If you purchased on Oct 10, 2025, you will have until Jan 10, 2026 to renew your license.

Please note: If the license is renewed during this grace period, it will still be renewed for 12 months starting on the purchase date, and not on the renewal date.

Tip! You can activate the auto-renewal button to avoid this.

How do I know if my license is about to expire?

You will get email notifications when your expiration date is close. You can also sign in with your social account at our website and see all your licenses and their status.

You can also activate the auto-renewal and forget about expiration dates.

Do I need to renew my subscription every year?

It is highly recommended to renew your subscription every year in order to get all fixes and updates and use the latest versions as they are released, and support for new Visual Studio releases.

Do I have to buy a new license if I upgrade form one IDE to another?

No, you don´t need to buy a new license if you upgraded your IDE. However, your license has to support that particular IDE. You will only need a license for the PHP Tools version that supports that particular IDE.

Just over a year ago, I bought a PHP Tools for Visual Studio license that it is now expired. I didn’t want to renew it but now I have found that it no longer works. If this is a permanent license, how do I make it work again?

The license you purchased is indeed permanent for the version you purchased or older versions. You will be able to use it for as long as you wish. Hence, to solve the problem, you just have to download the correct version.
